Y6 Western Approaches

Year 6 had an absolutely fantastic day at Western Approaches on Wednesday. We learnt so much about how the bunker played a pivotal role during WW2, it’s crucial part in the Battle of the Atlantic and how people worked in complete secrecy down there throughout the war years. It was a fascinating experience. We even got to explore some of the uniforms and equipment which they would have used at the time.
We also discovered more about the impact the war had on Liverpool and how our city played a significant role in the war effort, with Churchill commending the ‘unconquerable spirit’ of our incredible city.
Our tour guide was extremely impressed with the children’s knowledge about the war and highly commended their exemplary behaviour, enthusiasm for learning and their excellent questioning skills to find out more and deepen their understanding.  Well done Year 6, you were a credit to our school as always!
